Documentary: Idea and Early Research

For this unit we have been given the task to work in groups to create a documentary based around doorstep wildlife and nature around Kent, individually we all have to come up with at least one idea before we decide as a group which idea we would like to base our final documentary on. Our idea has to fit in with the channel Eden, I am not familiar with this channel at all so I have done some research to try and familiarise myself with it.

What is Eden?
Eden is the TV channel to watch for the best in wildlife and sciene. Eden features some of the very best of the BBC's Natural History Unit with Sir David Attenborough, Eden basically aims to show the world in all its beauty and wonder. This means they show everything from animal behaviour and landscapes to cutting edge science and life endangering exploration.

My Idea
When I first saw what our brief was, I got thinking about all the wildlife I had seen around Medway, I first thought about basing my idea off of birds that I have seen around, I have seen many different species of birds flying around while walking around Medway, and then I had seen foxes running about at night so I thought maybe I could base my idea off of them.

I then came across this Wesbite: http://www.wildwoodtrust.org/index.html

The park is based in Kent so would not be too hard to access and I would get into contact with them to see if it would be possible for me to film there. Some of the animals that are based in this park are animals that you can find on your door step so to speak.

While around Medway I have seen Foxes, Birds and Bats, they have all these animals in the park, I feel I could cover some good content from working at this park, and I would also see if the workers and vonlunteers at the park would talk about the different animals that they have rescued and how the park actually works with all the volunteers and the adoption packages.

  1. A good start, make sure you evidence detailed research and check your handbook (it's on MYUCA) for guidance on the blog content required for this unit. By this afternoon we will be making a decision in your group as to which story to go for so we need to be able to weigh up its viability, so ensure you have all the necessary information to be able to do this.
